I am hosting the next edition of the Carnival of Nonprofit Consultants, publishing this Friday and the theme will be “What’s Hot and What’s Not in the Nonprofit Sector.” If you write a blog, share your thoughts on trends in your particular corner of this great big field, and then let me know about the post by sending your permalink to me at npc.carnival@yahoo.com. Don’t blog? Leave a comment on this post to share your ideas on what’s hot and what’s not.

The biggest trend that I have seen in Canada is that nonprofits/charities (in particular FD departments) are blaming the US housing crash for their lack of funding. It seems that externalizing every problem we face is our attempt to absolve ourselves of responsibility.
Recession, depression, financial crisis aside, when was the last time you/we examined our programs/projects/missions to see if in fact we are complicit in perpetuating serious social issues?
