I liked it a lot Kivi! I didn't find it emotionally confusing. It hasn't run in my neck of the woods so this is the first time I've seen it. I think it delivers a very memorable message. Suzanne Dameron

For what it's worth, this commercial is being used all across the country. It's being shown in Nebraska, using one of our senator's names.

You are right, too confusing. I tried to think of away they could use the powerful image of being doused in oil with the "bad guy" and couldn't do it. Our brains are wired to feel sorry for creatures buried in oil right now. There would have to be more time for us to get angry--"this is the guy who turned the spigot on" and 30 sec is probably too short to switch emotions. This is a hard one.

Good point - maybe the Senator should have been brought up in a BP outfit, as a broken pipe or some other unfavorable entity in the gulf currently!

I love this ad! Your bring up an interesting point. However, I experience it as satire, and think it works well, as such. I don't find it emotionally confusing.

I agree with you, Kivi - I think the ad works on an intellectual level but not an emotional one. A clever ad is not the same as an effective one.
