2012 Nonprofit Tagline Awards – The Winners!
Nancy Schwartz of Getting Attention.org has announced the winners of the 2012 Nonprofit Tagline Awards – or as they are affectionately known – the Taggies.
This year, Nancy had over 1,400 tagline entries that were then whittled down to 63 finalists identified by an expert panel of judges (including moi). Then 3,300 voted for the 18 winners categorized by organizational, special event, advocacy, fundraising and program tagline.
Here is a short video highlighting the winners:
Here are a few of my favorite winners from the organizational category:
Organization: New Depot Players Community Theatre
Tagline: Play Your Part
Organization: Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED)
Tagline: You Make a Difference…(We Make It Easier)
Organization: Wounded Warrior Project
Tagline: The greatest casualty is being forgotten.
Organization: University of West Florida Libraries
Tagline: The Quickest Way from Q to A!
Organization: Maryland SPCA
Tagline: Feel the Warmth of a Cold Nose
Nancy also has a free Online Tagline Database and Report.
What I like about these taglines is that, because you know the name of organization they belong to, their meaning is so much greater than what the words literally say. I think that’s what makes a really good tagline pop: it adds to the meaning of the name, rather than just repeating it in different words, by bringing in more of the organization’s heart and soul.
Tomorrow, November 15th, I am hosting a free webinar on writing short. We’ll cover advice that will be useful for taglines, headlines, tweets and other social media updates, subject lines and more. I hope you’ll join us! Learn more and register.
