After working closely with more than 100 nonprofit communications directors over the years, I’ve seen just how important a strong working relationship between the executive director and the communications director is.  Data in our most recent trends report confirms how essential these partnerships are too.

I provided some advice to executive directors on improving their side of the relationship in both the 2016 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report and in a presentation I did last week at the CEO & Marcomm Annual Conference for the SeriousFun Children’s Network.

I’m sharing the slides with you here:

After the presentation, it was so wonderful to see all the conversations taking place in the hallways between executive directors and their communications staff.

The top question from EDs to their staffs? “When am I being a cat?”  You’ll have to click through the slides to get that reference.

What words of wisdom would you add for executive directors who want to better manage their communications teams? Please share in the comments.
