Meet Anna Zimmerman of WithinReach
What does your organization do?
For the last 25 years, WithinReach has been dedicated to making the connections Washington families need to be healthy. Each year, our staff help over 230,000 families across the state learn about and apply for vital health and food resources including Medicaid, First Steps Pregnancy Medical, Apple Health for Kids, Basic Food, and Summer Meals. We offer comprehensive, friendly, and multilingual support through our interactive websites, call center, and in-person community outreach.
For health providers and community organizations, we also serve as a trusted partner. We help providers learn about what programs are available for the families they serve and support statewide efforts to improve programs that promote health and nutrition.
What is your job?
As the Outreach and Marketing Coordinator I am part of the Community Engagement team at WithinReach. I coordinate our social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, You Tube and our new blog. I also lead our online marketing efforts through Facebook, Google Ad Words, etc.
What’s one thing you are working on right now with your communications?
Our organization is comprised of different programs and coalitions which in the past have each created their own messages and materials. Our Community Engagement team is working to create cohesive organizational messaging and materials that we will be able to use throughout the different programs.
What’s one thing you have learned from having the Pass and were able to apply?
Seeing examples and templates of editorial calendars helped us to create an editorial calendar and allows us to plan communications on different channels. The ‘Writing Short’ webinar is full of good tips and a nice reminder that less is usually more when it comes to online communication. I also love the Monthly ‘Writing Prompts’ – I always find inspiration for social media posts among the ideas.
