Metaphors are a great way to connect difficult concepts to ideas that people already know and understand. That’s why I included a large section on metaphors in my new book, Content Marketing for Nonprofits. (Amazon)
For example, can you compare the work you do to parenting, traveling, or gardening? Or how about fashion, sports, or the weather?
Nonprofits can use metaphors to
- Clarify their niche
- Make the technical feel more touchy
- Overcome resistance
- Bring data to life
Once you have an idea for a metaphor, you need to flesh out that idea by looking for several different ways to connect your metaphor and your work.
It’s Worksheet Wednesday, so today I’m sharing the worksheet I use to further explore a metaphor.
