Here’s the latest installment in our series on the “Day in the Life” of nonprofit communicators, where we ask you to describe your day in your own words.

Kristyn Greco is Switchboard of Miami’s Development Specialist and Communications Manager. Social media guru and fundraising aficionado, Kristyn is a University of Miami alumnus, mother of one (to her dog, Maya Angelou), amateur blogger, and adventurist.

Here is a typical day:

Before 8:00 am: Wake up at 7:00 (let’s be real, 7:15 after hitting the snooze) and stare sleepily at my emails, take the dog out–Maya loves to go for walks–and then re-look at emails with fresh eyes. Come back home and drag the boyfriend out of bed before biking to work.

8:00 am – 10:00 am: Wheel into the office at 8:25-8:30 and park my bike by my desk before going to get coffee from the kitchen. Say hello to everyone and meet with my boss for a quick hello before hitting the desk.

Spend about a half an hour on communicating with other nonprofits on Facebook, check the Twitter feed, schedule any HootSuite posts that are in queue, and give a tour to the Leadership Miami group that has chosen us as their pet project.

At 9:30, intern Sarah comes in and I put her to work on redesigning our volunteer brochure to streamline branding.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm: Need a stretch, so I stroll around the office and stop to talk to some people for a few minutes. I check in with almost every department to keep relationships positive and strong.

Head back to the kitchen for a snack and come to my desk to start composing emails that should go out over the next few weeks for Give Miami Day, a philanthropic day of giving.

Finalize intern Sarah’s graphics from last week and take her for a smoothie to reward her for doing such awesome work over the past few weeks.

Come to my desk and call some people to check in on ongoing projects. I make some popcorn and share with people around the office before coming back to my computer to finish the graphics for the emails that will be going out.

12:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Add a page to our website about offering services to other call centers and send it for use by the ad group that’s running our campaign. Then, I sit down for a webinar on Corporate Giving.

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Meet with our database specialist to wrap up the financial details on our past fundraising event. There is a discrepancy about sponsorship dollars and we try to solve it.

After 4:00 pm: Check my to-do list for tomorrow and leave at 4:30 because I came in early today and worked late yesterday. Walk the dog and call it a night.
