“Generative AI” is artificial intelligence that creates new content based on your prompts. These tools can help you streamline your content creation processes, improve engagement with your content, and save you a lot of time.

Used inappropriately, they can also cross ethical boundaries, stain your brand reputation, and leave you as the organizational “messenger” accountable for mistakes made by other staff.

It’s time for all nonprofits to catch up with the technology that is already in use at your nonprofit (whether you know it or not) and develop policy guidelines around the use of generative AI.

During this webinar, we will:

  • Give you some practical ways to think about and discuss AI in your organization. For example, when is AI a ghost writer or editorial assistant that wouldn’t get acknowledgement even if they were human? We are much more likely to credit photographers by name and to acknowledge their copyrights. What happens when AI creates the photograph?

  • Explore the primary benefits of using generative AI, such a drafting content or creating visuals, refining the tone and style for target audiences, and curating content. We’ll also explore the downsides: the legal and ethical concerns about source materials, the lack of authenticity and sameness in the writing, possible impacts on your website SEO, and the potential lack of transparency and accountability internally.

  • Review the essential components of a comprehensive policy for the use of generative AI, with a focus on the responsible use of these tools in content creation. We’ll share draft language that you can use as the starting point for conversations at your nonprofit.

  • Identify additional actions you can lead or suggest internally, such as syncing the way staff use AI built into the software everyone already uses, developing internal and/or external disclosure language, and training on what to look for and edit out in AI-generated content.
