Kivi was part of a fantastic session at last week’s Nonprofit Technology Conference called Breaking Down Silos: Integrating Marketing and Fundraising Departments.

Kivi, along with Big Duck CEO Sarah Durham, led a panel that consisted of Hannah B. Kim, Director of Communications at Harlem RBI & DREAM Charter School, Anysa Holder, Director of Marketing at Easterseals New Jersey, and Cindy Olnick, Director of Communications at Los Angeles Conservancy.

Check out our research on the difference types of communications teams and which are most effective.

The panel discussed how they work with their fundraising, development, and programs teams and answered questions such as:

  • What’s the toughest part of integrating marketing and fundraising work at your org? How do you manage that?
  • What are you doing now that you wish you had been doing 2 or 3 years ago?
  • Does your organization’s strategic plan consider your roles and the priorities of your departments? Does it spell out how you collaborate?

Here are some more resources from this session:

We were lucky to have Greg Lee, Senior Communications Director, YMCA of the Triangle in the audience. Like a lot of us, Greg’s brain doesn’t necessarily work in a straight line from A to B. In a world of ever-increasing noise and distraction, he discovered Sketchnoting in late 2015 and uses them to stay focused in trainings and create a visual representation of the key points he wants to remember.

Here are his notes:

Sketchnotes from Greg Lee

Greg says, “Anyone can sketchnote, regardless of whether or not you think you can draw. So go ahead and give it a try!”

If you are into the more traditional notes, we have those too.
