We’ll release the 2017 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report on Tuesday, January 17 and I’m so excited to share it! We’ve uncovered some really interesting trends that I think will go a long way in continuing to build the effectiveness of communications teams.

But for today, here’s a little data niblet to hold you over until next week:  The level of confidence that nonprofit communications staff have in their skills is going up, but their job satisfaction is down.

On the confidence question, we asked: Which of the following best describes how you feel about your nonprofit marketing and communications skills?

  • I have a lot to learn and many knowledge and experience gaps to fill.
  • I am comfortable with most of the work, but want to keep getting better at it.
  • I am very capable, confident, and effective and am looking to take my work and organization to the next level.

skills and confidence

When you hear this, what do you think? Why do you think job satisfaction is down this year? We didn’t ask why in the survey, so I’d love to hear your theories in the comments.
