I worked out this morning, had a call, answered some emails, sent an email, stopped for lunch, took my dog for a walk, aaaand now I am crashing and don’t feel like doing the many other things on my to-do list for today.

I am at my desk, but just watched a YouTube video on the Top 10 Most Entertaining Demons on Supernatural and was scrolling Facebook when I realized I just need to stop and get back to work.

Lucky for me I just happened to come along 5 Things to Do If You Don’t Want to Get Back to Work by Mike Iamele.

So if your Monday is anything like mine, use Mike’s tips for re-focusing and getting back to work:

Take a Timed Break

Before you get too far off track, take a break. But set a timer or alarm so you don’t waste too much time or go down any rabbit holes (not that I know anything about that).

Reward Yourself

Create some motivation by giving yourself a treat when you complete a task. When I finish this blog post, I will go get some chocolate.

Prioritize Your To-Do List

If your to-do list is overwhelming, narrow it down to the three tasks you HAVE to do today. Then go back and add your other tasks as you go.

Ask for Help

Tell someone you aren’t feeling particularly motivated. According to the article, “quick chats with colleagues and friends can actually boost the area of the brain that controls focus, planning, prioritization, and even organization.”

Break Your Work Into Smaller Steps

Anything you are working on starts with one smaller step. Don’t worry about the end result and just start with step one.

Hopefully on those days you just do not feel like getting anything done, these steps can help you through. Now I am going to go get my chocolate….
