Is there such a thing as the perfect job? Maybe, maybe not.

We hear about some good situations and some bad ones in our Day in the Life series.

We also learned a few things in our 2016 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report too.

Does size matter? Communications directors at nonprofits with budgets of $5-10 million are most likely to say they feel very capable in their jobs, that they are passionate about the work, and that they plan to stay in their current positions for 3 or more years. The larger the organization, the bigger the communication director’s salary.

What about mission area? Religious organizations are most likely to retain their communications staff (even though the pay is below average), where associations and arts/culture organizations are more likely to lose them sooner. International; Health, Disease, and Medical Research; and Other Public Benefit Research or Advocacy nonprofits tend to pay their communications directors an above average salary.

Being part of management? Communications directors are most likely to be considered a part of the senior management team when working in philanthropy/grantmaking organizations and least likely to be on the team when working in human services.
