Let’s Give! The Big List of National, Local and Collegiate Online Giving Days (2016 Edition)

International Book Giving Day[Updated Aug. 11, 2016]

Are you thinking about participating in a Giving Day? Good news! There are so many organizations that have given it a try, and YOU can learn from them (the good AND the bad).

Look at their websites, donation landing pages, countdown clocks, emails, social media accounts, images, and hashtags. Do a Google News search to check out the earned media these days have achieved. Reach out to a fellow nonprofit and ask them to share their experience.

Giving Days can be great ways of harnessing the immediacy and connectedness of social networks to raise funds, recruit new supporters, and raise awareness of your mission.

They are not to be entered into lightly. Successful giving days take planning, concerted resources, solid execution…and a reality check (MUST READ: One Lesson from the #iGiveLocal “Give Local America” Fiasco and The Heroes and Villains of the Give Local America Story #GiveDayLessons)

Do your homework, starting with these resources:

Then check out a Giving Day near you! I tried to find as many giving days as possible. There are over 70 here, but I’m sure I missed many.

You can help build this resource by adding a national, regional or collegiate giving day in the comments section.

All of these events either have already happened or will happen in 2016. There are no guarantees for 2017!

Giving Tuesday is in November, not December. Nov. 29th.

    • karvetski

Good catch. In the past few years it’s been in December. Thanks.

August (The Trust for Public Land)

    • karvetski

That was really interesting. Thanks for the submission. I’m super curious to hear their thoughts on how it went. August is a tough time for fundraise, this being an election season and all.

September – Give More 24 (SW Washington)
Maybe this one doesn’t count since it’s nearly 2 months, but November – December – Give!Guide (Portland Metro Area – Oregon)

Got it! I added it to the list. Thank you.

Colorado Gives Day is Tuesday, December 6 this year. Last year the one-day event brought in $29 million. Our Online Giving Director, Dana Rinderknecht, also wrote a blog about crisis planning. http://coloradogivesblog.blogspot.com/2016/06/crisis-planning-for-colorado-gives-day.html

Awesome. I appreciate the submission and added it to the list.

The University of Texas at Austin is having their 4th annual giving day this April 12-13. Ours is called 40 Hours for the Forty Acres and is a 40-hour campaign. More info: https://40for40.utexas.edu/

Thank you! I added this to the list.

  • Awesome list, Kerri! Thanks for compiling this for everyone. There are so many to keep track of, and clearly opportunities for nonprofits to collaborate.

    • karvetski

Thanks, Debra. It’s interesting to see the patterns emerge.

  • karvetski

Thanks for all the additions! I’ll update the list. Seems they are sprouting up every day.
