Nonprofit Hashtags You Should Keep an Eye On

twitter-hashtagsIn yesterday’s post on registering a hashtag, we talked a little bit about how useful hashtags can be when trying to categorize your social media posts by topic. Here are some hashtags specific to the nonprofit field that you should add to your listening dashboard.

Twitter Chats

#nptalk – Weekly Wednesdays, 3:00 -4:00 pm EST. Learn more.

#ynpchat – First Wednesday of the month, 4:00 -5:00 pm EST. For young nonprofit professionals.

#smnpchat – First and third Friday of every month, 12:00-1:00 pm EST (although sometime varies). For small nonprofit fundraisers and marketers. Moderated by Pamela Grow. Learn more.

#NPMC – Last Thursday of each month at 1:00 pm EST. Open to anyone involved in nonprofit marketing and communications. Moderated by Marlene OliveiraLearn more.

#npcons – For consultants with nonprofit clients. Learn more.

Technology

#nptech – Trends and thoughts on technology for nonprofits

#14NTC – Tag for the 2014 Nonprofit Technology Conference, but it’s really used all year.

Communications and Outreach

#video4change – Use when posting your nonprofit videos

#socimpact – Use when talking about the impact your nonprofit is having.

#dogood – Use when posting calls to action

You might also want to check out general keyword hashtags like:

  • #nonprofits
  • #grantwriting
  • #volunteer
  • #activism
  • #foundations

And keywords specific to your cause like:

  • #climatechange
  • #humanrights
  • #hunger
  • #LGBT
  • #rescuedogs

If it’s a keyword for your organization, chances are there is a hashtag associated with it and you should be paying attention!
